Requirement Description

 
Studies to meet this requirement must be in the following areas:
  • classroom management
  • literacy education
  • development of knowledge, understanding, and skills for working with general education teachers, as related to the impact of speech, language, and hearing disabilities on learning in the general curriculum areas of the State learning standards

These studies may be delivered as follows, or through an equivalent combination of these options:

  • 6 semester hours of college coursework from an institution that is approved by the Commissioner of Education or a regional accrediting agency
  • 40 hours of coursework or professional development approved by the employing school district or BOCES under its professional development plan
  • 40 continuing competency hours, as defined in the licensure law
