The VLS contains the New York State Learning Standards, including the full text of the 28 standards with key ideas, performance indicators, and alternate performance indicators for students with severe disabilities. You may access the learning standards in the seven general curriculum areas along with subdivisions and associated resources by clicking any of the above tabs and then clicking on Explore Standards, Explore Resources.

This link provides a listing of the 28 Learning Standards for New York State. State Learning Standards means the knowledge, skills and understandings that individuals can and do habitually demonstrate over time as a consequence of instruction and experience. They are organized in seven general curriculum areas: Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts); CDOS (Career Development and Occupational Studies); ELA (English Language Arts); HPEFCS (Health, Physical Education, Family and Consumer Sciences); LOTE (Languages Other than English); MST (Mathematics, Science, and Technology); and Social Studies. Unless otherwise specified, the standards are defined by key ideas and performance indicators arranged in elementary, intermediate, and commencement levels.

Learning Standards in Different File Formats

This feature provides the learning standards in two different file formats to assist users with curricular alignment and web servicing. The two file formats are HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) for general users and XML (Extensible Markup Language) for more technical users. The HTML version allows users to view and print the learning standards and associated subdivisions. The XML version is for technical users when developing applications. Teams of users are encouraged to use both versions as they complete their projects.
